Origin and processing
Chinese lantern (Physalis alkekengi) belongs to the nightshade family. It is grown in Asia and Europe, where it is popular not only as a decoration but also as a plant with symbolic meaning. The twigs are harvested when the lanterns are fully coloured and firm, then gently dried to preserve their shape and colour. Physalis is commonly widespread as a popular decorative perennial throughout Europe.
Care and maintenance
