Origin and processing
Nigella orientalis – also known as black cumin, nigella, or eastern nigella – is grown for its decorative seed pods. After harvesting, it is carefully dried and hand-dyed a vibrant yellow, while retaining its typical structure and fragility. The dried stems are slightly flexible, also suitable for tying.
Care and maintenance
Nigella is maintenance-free – it does not require water or special care. Protect it from moisture and direct sunlight to maintain its color. If dusty, gently blow with cold air from a hairdryer or use a soft brush. To refresh, you can use a spray for dried flowers (e.g. SPRING pro florist).
Interesting fact
Nigella orientalis is a close relative of the well-known Nigella damascena, but stands out with a more prominent pod and better stability after drying. It is popular among florists worldwide.
